News

This study describes the association between preoperative dental clearance and subsequent postoperative outcomes. We found no difference in all-cause mortality, incidence of postoperative endocarditis, postoperative infection and length of hospital stay after preoperative dental clearance before cardiac surgery. The current available evidence points to an unestablished association, leaving us without a clear understanding of whether preoperative dental clearance leads to a lower incidence of postoperative endocarditis.

Strokes following a suicide attempt are rare and seem to affect younger patients presenting with more severe strokes and higher medium-term mortality. While carotid dissection emerged as the predominant cause, several other stroke mechanisms have been identified.

Data was collected between July and the end of November 2021 via an online questionnaire among mental health professionals in Europe. The Swiss data was collected via the same online questionnaire, which was widely distributed at a local level thanks to the efforts of professional associations, psychiatric institutions and health schools. The questionnaire was divided into three sections: organizational adaptations, use of digital tools, and professional and personal experience of the health crisis.

Short, accurate, rapidly completed psychometric tests are in high demand in psychiatry. Time is always limited. Researchers often try not to overburden patients included in studies measuring many variables. However, shorter psychometric tests may demonstrate poorer reliability or lower sensitivity. Computerised adaptive testing (CAT) could be a solution to this important trade-off.
